EUSD UPDATES ~ March 14, 2025
|
|
|
Dear EUSD Community,
On Tuesday, March 4th, we welcomed approximately 100 students, staff, and family members for our third annual LCAP input event. The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is the district plan that drives our goals and budget priorities. Each year, we seek feedback from all of our educational partners through this live event as well as through surveys, which we have included here today.
Past feedback has led to the hiring of more Community Liaisons at our schools, the implementation of our TRAC (Teambuilding, Regulation, Acceptance, and Community) program, our MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Teachers on Special Assignment, providing health benefits for our Instructional Assistants, and increasing compensation and health benefits for our Enrichment teachers. We appreciate our principals, MTSS TOSAs, and Cabinet members, who facilitated table discussions and took notes to provide us with valuable feedback from each school site and each group of educational partners. Additionally, we are grateful for the many district staff members, students and family/community members who dedicated their time to provide input, ideate, and reflect on current and future district goals.
The LCAP is a critical component of California’s school funding process and it supports the implementation of our Framework for the Future Strategic Plan. It serves as a roadmap for how our district allocates resources to support student success, enhance educational programs, and promote innovation. Our LCAP impacts each of our students through decisions related to curriculum and programs.
As we work to create Empowered Learners, Global Citizens, Innovative Thinkers, Wellness Advocates, Skilled Communicators, and Confident Collaborators, we want to hear from you on the best ways to move forward as a school district community. This survey was sent in an email to families on March 7 from EUSD Communications. We have heard from several parents that the email went to their spam/junk folder. To ensure everyone has a chance to provide feedback, we are sharing the survey link here as well. Your participation in the survey directly impacts decisions regarding academic programs, student services, and enrichment opportunities. We encourage all families, staff, and community members to take a few moments to provide their valuable input.
Click here to complete the survey.
The survey will remain open until March 21. We are committed to building a stronger and more effective educational experience for our students.
Thank you for your time and commitment to our schools!
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed.D. Superintendent

SUPERINTENDENT CHAT PRESENTATION
|
Dr. Grey visited each school site throughout the last month, hosting Superintendent Chat meetings for both families and staff members. These presentations provided Dr. Grey with an opportunity to share important district updates, such as information on Bond Measure Z, and to get input and feedback from the EUSD community. If you were unable to attend, Dr. Grey has recorded a video of the Superintendent Chat presentation and has provided a copy of the slides below.

Joy, Belonging and Reading!
|
Parents and families are invaluable partners in each child’s educational journey. During the final week of our school-wide reading challenge, Flora Vista Reads, we invited families to join their child’s class during their weekly library visit.
Sarah Wilson, our Library Media Assistant, encouraged families to come and read alongside or to small groups of students. This community event helped to spread not only the joy of reading, but also a lifelong love of reading. It was truly heartwarming to see both students and families delighting in the EUSD Values of joy and belonging through this shared reading experience.

LEARNER PROFILE IN ACTION: OPE Students Lead Incoming Family Tours
|
|
|
Each spring, all nine school campuses open their doors to welcome prospective families for tours in preparation for the upcoming school year. At Olivenhain Pioneer, the tours are led in collaboration with Principal Kay and OPE student tour guide leaders in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. With the help of Principal Kay, these dedicated students worked hard to write scripts and practice their presentations, ensuring visiting families would leave excited to join the OPE school community. They offered a firsthand look at how OPE ignites the limitless potential of all learners, while showcasing their ability to be skilled communicators, confident collaborators, and empowered learners. During the tours, the student leaders shared why they love OPE, answered questions, and guided families around the campus.

EUSD’s innovative approach to recess sparks engagement and inclusion
Carlsbad Business Journal
Recess is a vital part of the elementary school experience—a time when students can unwind and refresh. For many, it’s synonymous with playing sports and climbing on playgrounds. While these activities remain beloved, EUSD recognizes that not all students are drawn to physical play every day. That’s why this year, we have focused on expanding recess opportunities to better serve all students and foster a greater sense of joy and belonging.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION - With BCK Programs
|
EUSD students are continuing to make the world a greener place by engaging with environmental education with BCK Programs! Here are a few highlights from the last few weeks:
3rd grade students at Ocean Knoll have been learning about important climate topics, such as water conservation and invasive species. Last week, students got to explore the Ocean Knoll Canyon and help remove invasive plants like Nasturtium!
At Paul Ecke Central, Green Team students have been helping educate their peers on the benefits of walking or biking to school. Students made posters to encourage students and staff alike to participate in their monthly bike or walk to school event (BOWWOW), which was held on Wednesday, March 5.
This week, students at Park Dale Lane are learning about and celebrating Women’s History Month by cooking recipes inspired by famous women chefs. Students get to use fresh vegetables from the school’s garden too!

Dear EUSD families,

We’ve received feedback from several parents indicating that the email may have ended up in their junk or spam folders. To ensure everyone is informed, we are sharing the same message here as well. This is also the same survey mentioned in Dr. Grey's Superintendent Update above:

Your input is essential in helping us make informed decisions that support our vision of igniting the limitless potential of all learners and fostering an environment where every student can succeed.
